The first step in making updates to the site is new hosting.

Now hopefully we can get some much needed updates completed here soon.

For a while there, the Social Bookmark Creator and Chicklet Creators were broken. Not sure when that happened, but they are all fixed and back in working order!

Finally, I’ve taken a bit of time and updated the Google button along with a few other items around here.  Some buttons added, a few removed.  Wordpress upgraded, spam protection added to the form and some housekeeping items.

It’s been quite a while since I posted anything to the iFeedReaders news blog and that’s not a bad thing. Our service was meant to be one that didn’t require lots of frequent updates. I’ve added any user submitted services and things have just been chugging along.

The Subscribe and Bookmark pages are working well and no big enhancements are on the horizon.

There is a new option on the subscription page.  BuzMe is a mobile feeds service that allows you to put feeds on phones and take them with you when you go.

Two new buttons have been added to the social bookmark page: Tumblr & Uvouch.

Tumblr is a cross between blogging and social bookmarking. You can easily add text, video pictures and more to any page with the click of a button. Think blogging, or slimmed down with no real maintenance.

Uvouch is a social site to save links and videos. Kind reminds me of YouTube with a few more features.

If you add an iFeedReaders social bookmark button to your site, you can give your visitors instant access to all the options on the social bookmark page. Or, add the bookmarklet to your browser to give you instant access to the social bookmark options from any page you browse to.

I’ve finally gotten around to getting the subscribe page up to par with the bookmark page. Now, all buttons are in a database and it’s really easy for me to add new buttons or remove broken ones. Actually, really easy for you to add services. Just go over to http://www.ifeedreaders.com/addMe.php and fill out the simple form. It’ll go into the database and when I check it out, then it’ll go live. Simple and sweet.

Now, I just need to get a few more tools tied into this database. But that’s a project for another day.

The new an improved bookmarks page is now live. This version includes a few button additions including NShout, Squidoo and Suttle to name a few.

The best part about the new bookmarks page as it’s driven by a database. With everything in a database, I’ll be able to pull it out in to the social bookmark creator tool. But that’s a project for another day.

It also allows anyone to quickly add social bookmark services. Any services added though the ‘Add Service‘ form automatically get put into a database, but not made live. Then I go in and just have to approve them. All the code is already written to display the buttons and it should help keep the bookmarks page fresher.

If you are using one of the iFeedReaders bookmark buttons, you automatically get to take advantage of the new bookmark page. If you don’t have a button, consider grabbing one.

In order to provide better services, we have changed servers. Ok, Dreamhost did it for me as they noticed that there were issues. I noticed that this site was down more than I wanted but really it’s due to the popularity.

So servers were switched and hopefully that makes things a bit more reliable.

After my post yesterday, I started coding the new Add Service form that I had dreamed up a while back. I didn’t think it could be that hard so I put my mind to it and had the database built in no time. Then the rest of the code fell into place. About 24 hours later, the new Add Service page is live!

So what’s new you ask? Well I came to learn quite quickly that I suck at keeping all the new feed and bookmark requests up to date. Everyone wants their service added and I just don’t have time to do code them all in. So I thought why not let you do the work for me.

With the new add service format, not much changes for the submitter. You can easily add your site, or your favorite site, to iFeedReaders by filling out the simple form. It then goes into a database and awaits my approval. Once I approve it, it’ll make up the new Bookmark or Subscribe page that I have yet to complete.

With the new format, I will theoretically have to just approve services instead of code them in. Thus making the process faster and us happier.

However, there is a downside. I have to convert everything over. So far I have four social bookmark services done and one feed button. So I have a bit of work ahead of me. But it’ll be nice when it’s all done.
